Luxembourg – 30 August 2010. Due to the continuing increase in costs registered since the last rate adjustments (1.8.2003 for national rates and 1.8.2005 for international rates) and in order to maintain the quality of its postal services, which is amongst the highest in Europe, P&TLuxembourg is obliged to modify its price list with effect as from 1 September 2010.

In an endeavour to ensure transparency and greater user-friendliness, the first two current weight scales (0-20 and 20-50g) will be grouped together from now on into a single scale (0-50g), both for national mail and export mail. In accordance with the provisions of the amended law of 15 December 2000 on postal services, the Institut Luxembourgeois de Régulation (ILR – Luxembourg Regulatory Institute) has approved the merging of these two scales and the new postal rates applicable to the 0-50g weight scale.

For national mail, the rate for a standard letter in the new 1st weight scale (0-50g) is set at €0.60. This new rate equates to an increase for mail weighing up to 20g (current rate: €0.50) and a decrease for mail weighing 20 to 50g (current rate: €0.70).

For Europe export mail, the rate for a standard letter in the new 1st weight scale is set at €0.85. This new rate equates to an increase for mail weighing up to 20g (current rate: €0.70) and a decrease for mail weighing 20 to 50g (current rate: €1.00).

For World export mail, the rate for a standard letter in the new 1st weight scale is set at €1.10. This new rate equates to an increase for mail weighing up to 20g (current rate: €0.90) and a decrease for mail weighing 20 to 50g (current rate: €1.40).

The price for sending non-standard or large format mail, packages and other special services (for example: registered mail) has also changed. Following these changes, P&T’s postal rates continue to be below the average rates applicable across Europe. In neighbouring countries, the comparative rates for standard 1st weight scale mail reach up to €0.90 for national mail and up to €1.35 for European mail.
