The Vision Disabled
Dangerous sidewalks, adapted signals almost nonexistent, obstacles everywhere, it is difficult to imagine the problems faced by blind or disabled people as they try to move around in the centre of our urban jungle.
Fortunately, they can trust the devotion and mastery of guide dogs to assist in their daily life and to help them lead a complete social life. Dogs are specially trained to perform this unusual task.
From the age of 12 months, a young dog begins its education for a period of 6 to 9 months. During this period, it is going to learn how to avoid multiple obstacles that are capable of injuring or hindering its future master. Eventually, it will also learn how to detect crosswalks, entrances, or even stairways.
Once its education is complete, the dog begins a period of apprenticeship with its future blind or disabled master. This mutual discovery is made as much in the training school as in the home of the master and in the places that he ordinarily frequents.
Lastly, the dog and its master form an inseparable tandem, united by a profound bond of mutual affection.
