30th birthday of HRH the Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume
Prince Guillaume was born on 11 November 1981 at the Grand Duchess Charlotte Maternity Hospital in Luxembourg and is the eldest son of Their Royal Highnesses the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg.
Prince Guillaume completed his primary education at the Lorentzweiler school. He later attended the Lycée Robert Schuman in Luxembourg and continued his studies at the Collège Alpin Beau Soleil in Switzerland where he obtained a French baccalaureate in 2001. From 2001 to 2002 he took officer training at the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, Great Britain. In December 2002, he was sworn in as an officer of the Luxembourg Army and the Prince currently has the rank of Major. After studying international policy in England, the Prince continued similar studies in France while participating in major geopolitical events. On 18 December 2000, he was officially named the Grand Duke heir apparent.
Since the beginning of 2001, he has been the Honorary President of the Board of Economic Development. His first duties in this capacity have taken him to South Korea, Italy, Russia, Canada, and the United States of America as well as countries in the Middle East.
Since becoming a member of the Council of State on 24 June 2005, Prince Guillaume has been attending regular plenary sessions as well as the institution’s various committees.
Besides his economic activities, the Hereditary Grand Duke actively participates in Luxembourg’s social and cultural life. The Prince, who is an avid sportsman, enjoys playing tennis, skiing, swimming and water sports.
