The theme adopted by POSTEUROP for the EUROPA issue for the year 2003 is "Poster Art".
The 1950s (Roger Gerson)
The works of painter Roger Gerson are a hymn to the beauty of life. The artist's exuberant temperament through which he expresses his intense joie de vivre is reflected throughout his work.
He didn't belong to the group of thoughtful and enquiring painters: abstraction and dismemberment are not his strength. Rather, he is capable of capturing the levity of a poetic situation or the trace of a perfume and to give them form and colour.
The poster created by him in 1952 for the 8th National Lottery is an excellent example of the combination of these impressions.
