The cooper

The cooper

The cooper works with great precision : he is responsible for supplying wooden barrels. All the know-how of the cooper comes together in making this useful and necessary object. His handiwork and his eye for design.
The barrel has been known in Europe for more than 2,000 years; invented by the Gauls, it was designed to hold liquid products (wine, beer, cider, water) and solids such as grains, seasonings, and even nails.
At first called barrel carpenters, the master coopers “tonloiers“ or “barilliers” were organised as early as the 9th century.
