2008 Summer Olympic Games
The 2008 Summer Olympic Games will be the 29th games organised in the modern era and will take place from 8 to 24 August in Beijing, China. On 13 July 2001, Beijing was voted as the host city during the 112th session of the CIO in Moscow, eliminating the cities of Toronto, Paris, Istanbul and Osaka.
On the evening of 8 August 2008, the opening ceremony will begin at eight seconds after 8:08 pm. The number 8 is the symbol of prosperity and infinity in Chinese culture.
For 18 days, 302 events will take place at 37 venues in 28 sports, representing 623 competitive sessions in all.
