Arcelor, the world leader in steel was formed in 2002 as a joint venture of Aceralia (Spain), Arbed (Luxembourg) and Usinor (France).
The determination of the three groups to leverage their technical, industrial, and commercial synergies in support of a joint project created a world leader whose goal is to set a standard of excellence in the steel industry.
The Arcelor group, which had sales of 26.6 billion euros in 2002, plays a leading role in all its markets : automobiles, construction, household appliances, packing materials, and general industry.
Arcelor has 104,000 partners in more than 60 countries. In Luxembourg, the group is the most important employer in the private sector with activities in production, research, and administration. The headquarters of the group is in Luxembourg.
Among the broad range of high end products developed in Luxembourg are the sheet piles shown on our postage stamp. These highly technical products are used in civil engineering applications around the world.
