Lëtzebuerger Déiereschutzliga

"Lëtzebuerger Déiereschutzliga"

Founded in 1908, under the name “Luxembourg Association for the Protection of Animals”, the association changed its name in 1968 to “National League for the Protection of Animals”. In 1964, the League opened a shelter for animals under the Royal Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Marie-Astrid. In 1984, the “Lëtzebuerger Déiereschutzliga” founded the “Fondation Déieren Asyl”, a recognised public institution, in February 1986.

The main activities of the “Lëtzebuerger Déiereschutzliga” are the maintenance, administration, and oversight of the Gasperich shelter, and the betterment of living conditions of animals. But its work does not stop there, the League prosecutes those guilty of acts of cruelty towards animals and collaborates with the authorities on creating new measures to protect animals.

The “Lëtzebuerger Déiereschutzliga” is part of the “EUROGROUP for Animal Welfare”, the WSPA (World Society for the Protection of Animals) and the NATURA (Ligue luxembourgeoise pour la protection de la nature et de l’environnement) and remains at this moment the only national organisation recognised by the national authorities.
