Christmas 2009
Roger LEINER
This year’s Christmas stamp, which shows a caricature of a fox decorating a Christmas tree, was created by the famous Luxembourg illustrator Roger Leiner.
Born in 1955 in Wiltz, in the north of Luxembourg, Roger Leiner studied the plastic arts in Strasbourg and lives since 1987 in Mersch as an independent caricaturist. He regularly publishes caricatures in the weekly magazines “Lëtzebuerger Land” and “Revue” and has created illustrations for several books for private businesses as well as for different governmental administrations in Luxembourg. He is, for example, the creator (with the writer Lucien Czuga) of the comic strip “De Pechert” and “Superjhemp” (the comic version of Superman in the Luxembourgish language) and has also created designs for books on children’s rights and animal caricatures for the “Déiere-Rubrik”. Roger Leiner organizes personal exhibitions in numerous places in Luxembourg. In addition, he has created various animations in collaboration with Lucien Czuga and the AFO Film Group.
In 1990, he participated in the Euro-Cartoon in Knokke-Heist, in the Euro-BD in Charleroi and in the “Festival de la Caricature” in St. Estève, France (1994 and 1998). He was the honoured guest at the “Comics and Animation Festival” in Washington (1997) and at the “Comics Festival “Kommissia”” in Moscow (2006).
