75th Anniversary of the Luxembourg Basketball Federation
Founded on 10 December 1933, the Luxembourg Basketball Federation (FLBB) has been affi liated since 1937 with the International Basketball Federation – FIBA and is in the European Zone designated as FIBA-Europe. The number of clubs affi liated with the FLBB is 34 and a partnership has been formed with the Special Olympics and the LuxRollers.
Men’s basketball is the second most popular team sport in the Grand Duchy ; women’s basketball is the most popular team sport for women.
The number of youths 15 years of age or less in the total membership (more than 6.000) of the FLBB, which is more than 50%, and the ever-growing number of new youth members confi rms the great popularity today of basketball with the young generation.
Luxembourg basketball is a multinational sport : enthusiasts from more than 50 nationalities play their favorite sport in the clubs of the Federation.
Within the framework of the Ecole Nationale de l’Education Physique et des Sports – ENEPS (National School for Physical Education and Sports), the FLBB participates in the “Centre de formation Basketball” as well as in the new curriculum of sporting classes at the INS, which allows the best players to perfect their sport without neglecting their studies. The Internat of Mersch, for players from 15 to 18 years of age, contributes greatly to the development of women’s basketball.
