150 years of the CHNP
Ettelbruck NeuroPsychiatric Medical Center
Under its successive names (1855: Hospice Civil; 1901: Maison de Santé; 1974: Hôpital Neuropsychiatrique de l'Etat; 1999: Centre Hospitalier Neuropsychiatrique), the history of the psychiatric institution of Ettelbruck is a good example of 150 years of medical and social developments for the benefit of those with mental illness in our country.
The result of a closed and centralised concept of psychiatry, the CHNP is preparing to change its ways and begin focusing on general hospitals and decentralised hierarchies. The therapeutic centres of Useldange and of Manternach have followed this path since 1978. Apart from its psychiatric role, the CHNP is and will remain a major player in the national network of elderly people and the mentally handicapped.
The commemorative stamp depicts a work of a participant in the art workshop, an example of the different therapeutic techniques used at the establishment.
