More recently, fraud in the Internet banking sector via e-mails (phishing) or via a virus (pharming) has multiplied in Luxembourg and elsewhere.

In the case of phishing, fraudsters send an e-mail on behalf of the bank in which they use any excuse (such as technical trouble, internal research, etc.) in order to lure the victim onto a falsified site (more often than not identical to the bank's site), where the victim is invited to register his personal details, such as: Internet banking code, password or credit card details. This data is then used by the fraudsters to embezzle funds.

Pharming involves diverting the access of an Internet site to a falsified one using different techniques (such as Trojan Horse, a virus or another computer without the knowledge of the user). When the user types the bank's correct URL, he is re-directed to a fake site (more often than not identical to the bank's home page), where he is invited to register his personal details such as his Internet banking code, password, complete details of his security card, etc. This information is used by the fraudsters to embezzle funds.

By acquiring a few simple reflexes and remaining alert to a few clues, you can continue using your CCP Connect without any concerns.

Regarding your access to CCP Connect:

• never keep all of your three codes in the same place
• do not save your CCP Connect access codes on your computer
• never reply to an e-mail inviting you to disclose your personal details (password, e-banking code, bank card number, etc.). Your bank would never ask you for such data via e-mail nor phone.
• never type the 16 numbers of your CCP Connect security code. To access CCP Connect you only need to type two numbers of your security code.
• always type the website address yourself (www.pt.lu) and never use an address link in an e-mail to access Internet banking
• verify that the CCP address begins with https, which means that the website connection is secure.

In general, to benefit from the best opportunities the Internet has to offer, use good reflexes.
