GAMM

The 76th International Congress of applied mathematics and mechanics

Important technological progress has been made possible thanks to the experiences and pilot projects of inventive engineers. Nowadays, the latter projects are more and more becoming virtual experiments. These simulations are based on theoretical and mathematical models; they are conducted by the world’s most powerful computers.

The Society of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (Gesellschaft für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik - GAMM) has a mission which favours technological progress to promote interdiscipline between the sciences of engineering, mathematics, and information technology. In March 2005, the University of Luxembourg will host the 76th annual meeting of this society. 700 participants from 30 countries will attend. The stamp illustrates one of the central themes from the conference, the calculation of the airstream of a turbine in a hydroelectric power station.
