Postcards " Greetings from Luxembourg "

Series of 6 postcards

This year the “P&T Grand Prix” for philatelic illustration by young people took place from 10 September 2007 to 29 February 2008. The drawing competition was organised by the P&T Stamp Office in partnership with the National Tourist Office, Luxembourg City Tourist Office, the Museum of History of the City of Luxembourg and the Ministry of National Education.

This year the Luxembourg City Tourist Office celebrates its 75th anniversary. For this occasion, the theme of the competition was “Greetings from Luxembourg”- “Meng Vakanz zu Lëtzebuerg”. Images could illustrate activities and events typical of holidays or tourist sites and landscapes in any of the four seasons.

Those taking part were primary school pupils from class 3 on, as well as pupils from classic and technical secondary schools. In order to share their view of holidays spent in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, they had a choice between different techniques of drawing and illustration (aquarelles, coloured pencils, acrylics, collages, etc.).

After the jury’s deliberations, the best entries were placed on show at the “Greetings from Luxembourg” exhibition at the Museum of History of the City of Luxembourg from 26 April 2008 until 12 October 2008. The drawings by the two winners of the competition (1 primary school pupil and 1 secondary school pupil) are published in the form of an official postage stamp with the name of the winner in the margin of each
stamp. Meaning the works by these young artists will tour the world.

Price for the set: 7,20 € ("Europe" postage included)

Designs: Sophie Rauschenberger (L), Anna Wainer (L), Johannes Roth (D), Amy Hughes (L), Alexandra Bilska (L), Erik Holm-Steenberg (L).
