Vauban Circular Walk
Due to the success of the Wenzel walk and in order to highlight what was one of the greatest achievements of XVII century military architecture, the Luxembourg National Sites and Monuments service decided in 1995 to create a new educational walk named the «Circuit Vauban» or Vauban circular walk. This 4 km long discovery trail retraces the perilous history of Luxembourg at the time of the confrontation between the Bourbons and Habsburgs, and has a real tale to tell. The walk takes a multicultural approach, instructing us on the causes and consequences of the 1684 siege and the restoration of the city by Sébastien Le Pestre de Vauban into a truly unassailable fortress town. The vestiges of this Herculean task, listed by UNESCO as a world heritage site, are now visited by thousands of tourists and are generating even greater interest every year.
