In 1928, three associations, "Coin de Terre et du Foyer", "Cercle Horticole" and "Amis de la Fleur", joined to form the Ligue Luxembourgeoise du Coin de Terre et du Foyer (CTF League or Allotment and Leisure Gardeners Luxembourg), better known by the name "Gaart an Heem". Today, its 140 local chapters, considered as agricultural cooperatives, have more than 33,500 family members. The league is managed by a central committee. Day-to-day business, however, is handled by the directorial committee assisted by an honorary council, a consultative council and an inspection commission By a ministerial decree of 28 February 1993, the CTF League was officially recognized as an ecological organisation. In its work, which is politically and religiously neutral, the league and the sections support the idea of homes with gardens, the concept of family pastimes, as well as the promotion of a clean and healthy environment.

Providing family pastimes Gardening is an essential pastime for the family: besides the improvement of our surroundings, gardening offers peace and relaxation after a day of stress and, in addition, allows the production of healthy, fresh fruits and vegetables. Cultivating a family garden encourages family understanding since, considered as a place of refuge and safety, the garden also offers a supplemental living and recreational space. Thus, it becomes responsible for a better quality of life and health. Through conferences, workshops, courses, exhibitions, walks and many other activities, the league and the sections encourage human contact and support integration, solidarity, and domestic life.

Cultivating Nature By setting up a natural garden, we create an important work for the protection of a healthy environment. The league and the ections believe that each family has the right to a home which allows a healthy and balanced lifestyle in harmony with the environment. This is why it supports the concept of a home with a garden for all. Similarly, the league supports ecological culture in private gardens and is dedicated to the creation and protection of family gardens and green spaces in metropolitan areas. It also favours the planning of school gardens in order to allow students a better understanding of the complexity of nature. The primary goal of the league is, to make everyone rediscover the annual cycles of nature, a reality that people today seem to have completely forgotten.
