50th anniversary of STATEC
In Luxembourg, everyone knows STATEC as the national statistical authority, not just as the publisher of the monthlyconsumer price index or for the establishment of the GDP (gross domestic product). In 1962, STATEC was formed by combining the Offi ce of General Statistics and the Office of Economic Studies and Documentation.
Reconstituted in 2011, STATEC became the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies. It represents Luxembourg within the European statistical system and coordinates Luxembourg’s statistical system with the goal of establishing a coherent statistical information system, while reducing the administrative load of collecting statistics.
STATEC is a department of the Ministry of the Economy and Commerce, but maintains its scientific and professional independence.
Its programme is set up in accordance with European and national statistical legislation, while adapting to the needs of its users.
Its goals, expanded over the course of time, consist of providing public and private decision-makers as well as citizens, a high-quality public statistics and information service. STATEC is committed to producing and publishing statistics and analyses as well as detailed, reliable, and objective scientific studies and research for Luxembourg’s society.
