Mondercange
The organ of Mondercange Parish Church was created in 2004 by Gebrüder Oberlinger of Windesheim. The casework in solid wood with its numerous fl at front fields and a balustrade-positive housing a solo flute, contains 27 stops on two manuals. The stoplist shows a large influence of the neo-classic French tradition, with evidence here and there of 19th century habits. Modern pipe organs offer nowadays the helpful facilities given by computerized stop-action assistance, thus the instrument of Mondercange allows the musician to prepare and select instantly from among 650 different memory-levels.
An imposing musical instrument, the organ derives its name from the Greek word organon, simply signifying tool or instrument. But the organ has also seen many metaphorical names over the course of centuries, such as “king of instruments”, maidservant of the Lord, and even bagpipes of the Devil.
