50 Years of ‘Uewersauer Stauséi’

50 Years of ‘Uewersauer Stauséi’

Notice to collectors of new stamps: for the first time ever, P&TLuxembourg has created a sheet of self-adhesive stamps. Moreover, this stamp is particularly interesting because the design is deployed across two separate stamps. It goes without saying that the two stamps are also sold separately.
This diptych illustrates the Esch-sur-Sûre dam, for which the first ground was broken on 30 July 1955 and whose construction was completed in October 1957. Close to 24,000 m3 of concrete was necessary to complete it. The dam can hold up to 62 million m3 of water and produce more than 18 million kilowatts of electrical energy per year.
A popular place for Luxembourg residents to go to sunbathe in summer, the Stauséi also attracts numerous swimmers from beyond the borders. It is also a centre for activities on water, such as kayaking, sailing, and even windsurfing.
