125th Anniversary of the Children's Houses
The creation of the Children’s Houses of the State of Luxembourg (MEE) goes back to the year 1884 when the first children from the Ettelbruck Central Hospice arrived in the existing barracks of the Rham Centre in Luxembourg.
Today, the MEE depend on the Family Ministry and are the only institutions of their kind in the State. The MEE are reception centres which guarantee lodging day and night.
The facilities can handle 75 children, adolescents and young adults, distributed across 8 structures, and space is allocated based on voluntary commitment requested by families or the youths themselves, as well as on the basis of judicial placements.
The institution offers to children and adolescents an education as well as appropriate treatments relating to their person, their personal history, their family, their culture, and their life goals. This work is supported by a multidisciplinary team. The families are always involved in this process. The MEE assure the support of young adults after they leave.
The “Service Treff-Punkt” and the “Service Treff-Punkt Prison” are services annexed to the MEE. They offer a structure allowing children, living in an institution, and children of divorced parents, to meet their parents when visitation rights are interrupted or difficult when a parent is in prison.
