Tribute to Rescuers
This series of stamps pays tribute to volunteers and professionals who are ready to risk daily their health and even their lives to save accident victims and the sick whose lives are in peril.
Mobile emergency medical service
The advantages of rescue by helicopter seem obvious: the doctor and rescue professionals can gain access to areas cut off from land-based access or communication, and are not held up by the traffic-jams which often paralyze highway traffic at certain hours of the day. The extraordinary speed with which these rescues can be carried out effectively, even in places of difficult access, has already led to savings the lives of many people.
This service is provided in Luxembourg by Asbl Luxembourg Air Rescue which owns two ultramodern MD Explorer helicopters, including one based in the capital and the other in Ettelbruck.
