Kiwanis

Kiwanis International Luxembourg

Kiwanis International is a worldwide organization of service clubs founded in the United States in 1915 and now established in 82 countries. Approximately 8,600 clubs have a total of more than 300,000 members. These members have very different social, religious, and political backgrounds, but are united by the goal of promoting goodwill and providing public service.

The name KIWANIS, whose official motto is we build (a better world), derives from Nunc Kee-wanis a phrase in the dialect of the Otchipew indian tribe living in the area around Detroit (Michigan, USA). This phrase can be interpreted in the broad sense to mean forming the desire to becoming active in order to share the talents of everyone.

It was the initiative of the first Luxembourger governor of the Belgium-Luxembourg district, Claude Bettel, that the preparations for the issuance of this stamp began. The first Kiwanis group was established in the Grand Duchy on 13th September 1969 and there are now seven very active clubs.
