Railways of Yesterday
The Industrial and Railway Park of Fond-de-Gras.
Thanks to the action of “Association des Musée et Tourisme Ferroviaires asbl” (AMTF), the Industrial and Railway Park of Fond-de-Gras was created in 1985 around TRAIN 1900, a train that started rolling in 1973. The idea was to conserve, collect, and present to the public evidence of the industrial progress of our country. In the meantime, public authorities and private businesses began to actively support the Ministry of Culture and the National Sites and Monuments Service in this work. (www.fond-de-gras.lu)
Locomotive AL-T3 6114
Built in 1891, the AL 6114 is one of three surviving locomotives from the first railway network created in Luxembourg, the “Guillaume Luxembourg”; line. After 40 years of loyal service, this small locomotive was resold in 1930 to serve another 40 years in various French industries before finishing its career at Givet in Belgium.
Recovered by a Luxembourg company, the AL 6114 was finally given to the National Sites and Monuments Service who entrusted the complete restoration to the specialised workshop of Deutsche Bahn. It was then made available to AMTF at Fond-de-Gras where it regularly escorted TRAIN 1900 beginning in 1997. After necessary maintenance, it will blow steam once again starting in the 2005 season.
