NAMSA

50th anniversary of "NAMSA"

In 1958, NAMSA (NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency) was founded in France. Since 1968, this primary management and logistical support organisation of NATO has been headquartered in Capellen. Its activities have been placed under the supervision of the NATO Maintenance and Supply Organisation (NAMSO). Composed of the 26 countries of NATO and created with a goal of assuring them, individually and collectively, logistical support of maximum effectiveness at least costs. This is the general policy followed by NAMSA and its implementation controls.

Fields of intervention of NAMSA include, among other things, the support of military operations of NATO, provisioning of replacement parts and other goods, and furnishing services for the necessary maintenance and upkeep of different weaponry systems of NATO countries.

NAMSA provides these services by calling upon industry and plays a key role in gathering the needs of countries, of centralising management activities and controlling the cost and quality of provided services. Thus, it ensures that its users have the advantage of the best possible logistical support with a goal of guaranteeing the operational availability of their weaponry systems and materials.

For the past few years, the participation of NAMSA in the logistical support of NATO and the armed forces of its member States has increased considerably. It played an essential role in several demilitarisation projects seeking to destroy land mines, conventional munitions and light arms.

The stamp issued for the 50th anniversary of NAMSA depicts well the global character of its field of activities, its multinational nature, and its longevity.
