Humanitarian activity
Luxembourg humanitarian aid
In the spring of 1999, in the middle of the Kosovo war, the great charitable organizations of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg redoubled their efforts to raise funds to support the displaced population of this deadly section of the Balkans. In this context, joint action was taken with the Red Cross and Luxembourg Caritas with a special goal of assisting the refugee children of Kosovo.
The internationally-renowned Luxembourg artist Ger Maas instantly declared her support and made available to this cause the "Mother and Child" lithograph that she had just created in her Parisian studio, and the entire printing of this beautiful work, shown on our stamp, sold out in a few days with all proceeds going to charity.
